Question 1

What is a drinking water filtration system?

Accepted Answer

A drinking water filtration system is installed under the sink or at a dedicated faucet to remove contaminants such as chlorine, sediment, chemicals, heavy metals, and dissolved solids. It provides clean, great-tasting water for drinking and cooking.

Question 2

What types of drinking water systems does Ultrefina offer?

Accepted Answer

Ultrefina offers advanced drinking water systems including ultrafiltration (UF) units, multi-stage carbon systems, and high-performance reverse osmosis (RO) systems. Each option is engineered for Canadian water conditions and designed to improve taste, purity, and safety.

Question 3

Do I need a drinking water system if I already have a whole-home filter?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Whole-home systems treat water for bathing, cleaning, and appliances, but they do not remove dissolved solids or provide the purification level needed for drinking. A dedicated drinking water system ensures the highest-quality water at your tap.

Question 4

What is the difference between ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis?

Accepted Answer

Ultrafiltration removes particles, bacteria, and organic contaminants while preserving beneficial minerals. Reverse osmosis removes a wider range of impurities, including dissolved solids, heavy metals, and salts, producing exceptionally pure water. The best choice depends on your water quality and taste preferences.

Question 5

How often do drinking water filters need to be replaced?

Accepted Answer

Most drinking water filters last 6–12 months depending on water usage and local water quality. Reverse osmosis systems may have multiple stages with different replacement intervals. Ultrefina systems use long-life cartridges to reduce maintenance frequency.

Question 6

Is installation difficult for a drinking water system?

Accepted Answer

Most drinking water systems are designed for quick installation under the sink using standard plumbing connections. Homeowners with basic DIY skills can typically install them, though professional installation is always an option.

Question 7

Do drinking water systems remove chlorine taste and odor?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Carbon filtration stages in Ultrefina drinking water systems effectively remove chlorine, chemical byproducts, and organic compounds that cause unpleasant taste and odor, resulting in cleaner, fresher-tasting water.

Question 8

Are drinking water systems suitable for both city water and well water?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Ultrefina drinking water systems work with both municipal and well water sources. Reverse osmosis and ultrafiltration systems are especially effective for homes with variable water quality or concerns about contaminants.
